Desoto County is a great place to live. Our position in the Memphis Metropolitan area provides us many amenities while allowing us to maintain our small town feel – for the most part. Those who live her prefer to avoid Goodman Rd (Hwy 302) from mid-morning to mid-evening due to traffic. There also always seems to be a line of cars trying to get into the Olive Branch and Southaven Chick-fil-As. That’s the price for being a popular place to live, and eat!

The county is home to 5 cities. Southaven, the oldest city in the county, is the 3rd largest city in Mississippi. It is located in the top center of the county. Interstate 55 runs through the west edge of Southaven. Olive Branch is a wonderful city on the east side of the county at the top. Germantown TN and Collierville TN are just above it. Money Magazine named Olive Branch as the 5th Best Place to Live on its 2017 list. Horn Lake is a vibrant city to the west of Southaven. Walls, the newest municipality in the county, is located to the west and south of Horn Lake. Hernando is the county seat. It is located on the south end of the county in the center. A great asset for the county is that the mayors of each of these cities meets monthly to work together of the good of all county residents, regardless of their address. Together, they lobby the state and national governments on behalf of the county, not just their own city.

In addition to these cities, there are other communities you might hear: Lewisburg and Pleasant Hill (south of Olive Branch), Lake Cormorant (south of Walls), Days (south of Horn Lake), and Byhalia (south east border of the county and into Marshal County). With the completion of I-269 in 2018, interstate access will be available to every city and community within 15 minutes.

The Desoto County School District, largest in the state, services the entire county. Many of the schools are highly rated for their educational performance. This district values academics, arts, and sports.
